Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic approach created by Dr. Gabor Maté and structured and organised by Sat Dharam Kaur.

This approach gently uncovers and releases the layers of childhood trauma, constriction and suppressed emotion embedded in the body, that are at the root of mental and physical illness and addiction.

When we can release ourselves from the old stories we tell ourselves, a new way of being emerges, leading to spontaneity, choice, expansion and freedom.

We learn how to hold and integrate our younger selves in a compassionate and transformative way, helping us to be more authentic and self-directing in our lives.

There is a rich amount of personal and professional development opportunities within the CI community to help to increase your competencies and goals. I have recently completed the six month Mentor in Training Program and qualified to mentor participants who are on the CI professional training programme, professionals using the CI approach with their clients and certified practitioners who are preparing to recertify. You will find my listing on the CI website here and learn more about my approach to mentoring via the link below.

Self care is of primary importance when working in CI, as it was when I was working in education. As well as having my own daily practices, I regularly meet with mentors and my CI therapist for supervision sessions, and attend zoom calls with Gabor, Sat Dharam, guest speakers and the facilitation team to enhance my therapeutic skills and knowledge.

I was the first compassionate inquiry practitioner based in Scotland, UK, certifying in September 2022 and re-certifying in September 2024. You will find my listing on the compassionate inquiry practitioners page here. I am delighted to see that we now have a growing community of therapists who are training in CI and using this approach in the work they do in supporting people across the country.

I offer CI therapy sessions from my home in Edinburgh and globally over zoom, seven days a week. I try to make CI accessible to as many people as possible, therefore, I offer a sliding scale of fees depending on income and personal circumstances. I also offer a couple of sessions per week at a further reduced rate, if you are a student or on state benefits.

You are warmly welcome to get in touch if you have any questions. You can also see my current availability and book a session directly by clicking on the therapy sessions link below.

You will also find my latest blog on authenticity versus attachment here.
